Renesis Boosted Power | Rotary Engine Builds

Rx8 Performance UpgradesRenesis Engine Builds | Adding more boost means more strength in the block

We have a customer that brought in a boosted Rx8, decent build, however in need of a new engine with reliable power output. This means a lot more than just adding in a stud kit and some dowels. Doing it right the first time is all about having the right information and connections.

For this build, I refer to one who has built many boosted motors and is coupled with a long term racer and business owner. I am referring to Kyle Mohan and Mazdatrix.

Having known Dave from Mazdatrix for quite some time (first in SCCA racing) and then in helping us with parts and machining.

The Mazda world has a lot of DIY builder out there and that is fine, we like to think our 30 years racing SCCA with the screaming rotary as our powerplant of choice, we've got a quality list of people that truly know rotaries. Knowledge and experience matters.

Here is a video of Kyle working on one of our builds to ensure that the pressures created stay in the right places and the power output meets our expectations.

This is the actual block that we will be using for this build. What makes this different than the other types?

Using the studs where they are needed matters. Studding the whole block is good for a drag car, this is not a drag car, meaning this will be driven often, with many warm-ups and cool-downs.

This detail is important as using the other through bolts (factory new) will allow expansion / contraction to occur. Another key issue is the use of factory new dowels vs. the long through dowels. Until I see the true need for a full length dowel, we go with what works. The weakness of the dowel appears to be on the front iron, not the middle or rear. so why go full length dowel?

Mazda Rx8 Engine Builds | When we get this back, we will put in our other Rx8 performance upgrades and build this motor, then to the dyno.

It all comes down to expectations, what power output are you planning for? How are you going to drive this car? What is yoru budget?

Put the money where it matters and build it right.
